Piece By Piece #4 on Penguin Eggs “Albums of the Year for 2012″

Maria’s new CD Piece By Piece, produced by Shannon Johnson, has been voted #4 on Penguin Eggs Magazine’s “Albums of the Year for 2012“. Quite an accomplishment, given that Piece By Piece was released relatively late in the year (September 18, 2012). Thanks again to all the musicians and others involved in making the CD, but especially to the women who worked at Edmonton’s GWG clothing factory and who so generously shared the stories that inspired these songs!

Nov 17: Maria Dunn sings with Shumka Dancers

Maria is very pleased to be participating in the upcoming Ukrainian Shumka Dancers Gala Fundraiser 2012 as part of an original dance work called Voices of the Silenced. She will be singing her song, In The Shadow Of The Rockies, inspired by the Ukrainian Canadians who suffered internment in Canada during WWI.

Produced by Shannon Johnson (Juno award winner with The McDades for 2007’s Bloom), the 8 songs on Piece By Piece pay tribute to the resilience and grace of immigrant women working at Edmonton’s GWG clothing factory over its 93-year history.

The multimedia CD release concert at Festival Place will include video footage of interviews with women who worked at GWG and feature the following musicians:
